During its Windows Phone Summit yesterday, Microsoft revealed that HTC (among others) will be producing Windows Phone 8 handsets when the platform launches later this year. There was no word on what we can expect from the HTC devices, but a new report claims to have details on a trio of WP8 phones that HTC's got in the pipeline. The three handsets are codenamed "Rio," "Accord" and "Zenith," claims a source speaking to The Verge, they rank from low-end to high-end in that order. The Rio is said to feature a 4-inch 800x480 display along with 512MB RAM, 5-megapixel camera with 720p video capture, 14.4Mbps HSPA connectivity and a Qualcomm MSM8227 processor. This one is currently expected to arrive in October.
Moving up a step, we've got the Accord. This model features a bump in screen size and resolution from the Rio, packing a 4.3-inch 720p Super LCD 2 display. Also reportedly included is an 8-megapixel shooter, 1080p video recording, 1GB RAM, 42Mbps HSPA+, NFC and a dual-core processor. Like the Rio, the Accord is tentatively due in October.
Last up is the Zenith. This is the one that folks interested in the high-end will want, purportedly packing a 4.7-inch 720p Super LCD 2 screen and a quad-core Qualcomm processor. Also said to be included is an 8-megapixel camera and 42Mbps HSPA+ support. The Zenith features the most vague possible launch window of this trio, with a debut expected sometime in the fourth quarter.
Sounds like a decent group of Windows Phone 8 handsets, no? We already knew that HTC was prepping WP8 hardware and that Qualcomm chips will be included, but we're not ones to complain about getting some more early info on upcoming products, and I'm sure many folks will be happy to hear that HTC is planning on taking advantage of new WP8 features like higher screen resolutions and multi-core chipset support right out of the gate. There are still some important details up in the air, like which models will be hitting U.S. carriers and when they'll be arriving, but for now at least Windows Phone fans have this leaked report to give a taste of what may be coming when WP8 lands later this year.
