We've heard in the past that Nokia is planning to bring its PureView camera technology to its Windows Phone devices in the future, but just in case you needed more confirmation, that's what we've got for you today. In an interview with HowardForums, Chris Weber, president of Nokia's North American arm, confirmed Nokia will "be bringing PureView technologies to the Windows Phone platform in future Lumia devices." Weber didn't say exactly when PureView Lumias will begin popping up, but he said that Nokia is "absolutely committed" to doing it and that the company plans to work with Microsoft to make sure that Windows Phone "supports the broad set of things" that Nokia wants to do with its PureView tech.
In other Windows Phone news, a rumor has surfaced claiming that the next major version of the platform will bring with it some mapping changes. According to WPCentral, Windows Phone 8 Apollo will feature Nokia Maps as the default mapping application, replacing Microsoft's Bing Maps. The report goes on to claim that Nokia Maps will also include 3D navigation and hardware acceleration on all Windows Phones. Other features said to be coming in Windows Phone 8 include an NFC-based "Windows Phone Wallet" and Skype support built into the OS itself and integrated with a user's contact list.
Some of those rumored Windows Phone 8 features, like NFC support and Skype integration, are ones we've heard before. The rumor mill has also previously claimed that things like support for multi-core processors, new screen resolutions and additional form factors. Whether or not any of these rumored features actually makes it into Apollo remains to be seen, but the good news is that Microsoft is holding a developer event later this month at which it says it'll offer "a sneak peek of the future of Windows Phone," so it may not be long before we get a taste of what Microsoft is planning for the next major version of its mobile platform.
