A patent trial between Apple and Motorola was scheduled to kick off next Monday, but according to a new report, the judge involved has decided to just toss it before then. Bloomberg explains that a federal judge has decided to cancel the trial between Apple and Motorola that saw Apple bring four claims of infringement against Motorola, while Motorola responded with one of its own. The judge is said to have canceled the trial after rejecting the damage arguments that both sides made.
Apple and Motorola have exchanged quite a few legal blows in different countries around the globe. This particular battle kicked off back in 2010 when Apple originally sued Motorola and then Moto countersued, but it seems that the judge didn't feel that it was necessary for the scheduled trial in the case to actually take place. Details on today's news are still light, and we've yet to hear anything from Apple or Motorola on the judge's decision, but we'll pass along more details as we get them. Stay tuned.
UPDATE: Bloomberg has provided an update on the news, explaining that Judge Richard A. Posner (the judge that tossed the trial) is still considering whether or not to move forward with a request from Apple for an injunction. Posner has said that he'll make a decision on that matter later today. Lawyers from both Apple and Motorola declined to comment.
