If you're a person that demands a high-resolution display in your smartphone, then you may want to add LG Display's new product to your wish list. The company has introduced a new 5-inch LCD panel for smartphones with a resolution of 1920x1080, giving it a pixel density of 440ppi. The aspect ratio of the new display is 16:9, and it also features Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching (AH-IPS, for short) technology. LG Display says that the AH-IPS tech should provide for wide viewing angles, fast response speeds and a low power consumption.
So when can you have one? LG Display won't make you wait too long, as it says that the 5-inch full HD LCD screens should be made available starting in the second half of this year. A 1920x1080 display would make for a pretty enticing addition to a smartphone's spec list, and while I'm sure that the 5-inch size would turn some folks off, the high resolution would likely be a big selling point for many. LG Display's 5" Full HD LCD panel is a step forward past existing mobile display technology. The LCD panel based on AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) technology features 440ppi and 1920x1080 resolution, providing for the first time Full HDTV quality on a smartphone. With 16:9 widescreen aspect ratio, the panel is also 0.5 inches larger, 2.2 times denser in pixels, and 1.3 times more advanced in ppi than the preceding 4.5" panel at 329ppi and 1280x720.

The 5" Full HD LCD panel from LG Display is expected to be released during the second half of this year, and will be on exhibit for the first time at SID 2012 Display Week in Boston starting June 4.
