It's been a while since webOS was in the headlines, but last night some information related to the platform surfaced, and unfortunately it's not really good news. Sources speaking to The Verge say that several members of the Enyo team will be leaving HP soon to jump to Google. Enyo is the application framework for webOS that was introduced with the TouchPad and is part of HP's move to open source webOS. It's said that only a portion of the Enyo team is moving to Google, but part of the group that is switch is Matt McNulty, the head of the project. There's no word yet on what the Google-bound Enyo workers will do once they arrive at the search company. HP released a statement concerning Open webOS, assuring us that the work is on schedule with the roadmap that it announced earlier this year:

"We're pleased with the traction Enyo has gained to date and plan to continue its development along with the open source community. The Open webOS project is on schedule and we remain committed to the roadmap announced in January."

These Enyo team members aren't the first webOS folk to move to Google, as Matias Duarte jumped from Palm to Google to become the Android's director of user experience. While it's not yet clear what these people will be doing once their feet touch ground at Google, it's certainly possible that they could end up working on Android as well, a move that I'm sure would please many fans of Google's green robot. As for webOS and Enyo, this news is definitely a bummer, but HP has promised that Open webOS is still on track to debut in September, and that's something that we'll continue to look forward to (as well as where these former Enyo workers end up at Google) as we march through the year.
