A little over a year after Sprint announced that it was teaming up with Google to integrate Google Voice into its handsets, it sounds like other carriers may soon offer a similar integration. Speaking to CNET, Vincent Paquet, Group Product Manager for Google Voice, said that Google is "having discussions with other carriers" about integrating Google Voice support into its service. Paquet wouldn't offer up any details on which carrier(s) may be next in line to be integrated with Google Voice.

Sprint's integration with Google Voice allows Now Network subscribers to use their existing phone number with Google Voice without paying the $20 porting fee that non-Sprinters face. Paquet says that the GV-Sprint integration has "worked really well" and "has a steady stream of people signing up for it," so it's exciting to hear that integration with other carriers may be coming. Of course, we don't have much information on when it could be happening or which operators might be included, but for folks not on Sprint that'd like to use Google Voice with their current number but don't want to pay the $20 fee, it's welcome news.
