Nokia Om Windows Phone reportedly given the axe by Verizon

To date, the only Windows Phone that has launched on Verizon is the HTC Trophy. According to a report from The Verge, though, that almost changed earlier this year. The site claims that Verizon was going to introduce a Nokia-made Windows Phone 7.5 device codenamed "Om" back in January. However, the Om is said to have gotten the axe from Verizon due to Windows Phone's lack of support for Big Red's LTE network. It's also said that the Lumia 900, which plays nice with AT&T's LTE network, may have also added to Verizon's decision.

We've heard Verizon say in the past that LTE support is a "critical" feature that it wants to see in Windows Phone before throwing more support behind the platform, so it's not a total surprise to hear that the carrier may have ditched plans to offer a non-LTE handset running Microsoft's mobile OS. The Verge believes that we won't see Verizon LTE support baked into Windows Phone until WP8 Apollo hits later this year, adding that Verizon may offer a Nokia WP8 device once the Apollo update lands later in 2012. That's kind of a bummer for Windows Phone fans on Verizon, especially considering that the HTC Trophy has been around since May of last year. What do all of you Verizon folk make of this rumor?
