Well, this may not be the news that Samsung had been hoping for as we head into the weekend. Just one week after a German court rejected a Samsung patent complaint against Apple, the same court has now denied a second lawsuit. Like the one from last week, this second Samsung suit also related to the 3G/UMTS standard. Judge Andreas Voss didn't offer a an explanation for the decision. However, FOSS Patents speculates that it could relate to the validity or infringement of the patents, which would still allow Samsung to win out on its other three 3G patent claims against Apple. Samsung also has two other non-3G complaints against Apple, including one that relates to a way of entering smileys on a device.
And the long-standing legal war between Apple and Samsung continues on. Each company has been in the news its fair share due to the tussle lately, with Apple filing some new smartphone and tablet-related lawsuits against Samsung, and then Samsung retaining the ability to sell the Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the Netherlands. Right now it seems like it's more of a question of when, not if, we'll see one of the companies throw another legal punch. When it happens, we'll let you know.
