Today RIM took to its official blog to offer up some details on the update to BlackBerry 7.1, which owners of the Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 on Sprint have been enjoying for some time now. One of the most notable aspects of the OS 7.1 update is the addition mobile hotspot function, which lets the 'Berry in question serve as a Wi-Fi hotspot for up to five devices. Sound good, BlackBerry folk? RIM says that the BlackBerry 7.1 OS update will begin rolling out today and will be hitting various carriers over the coming weeks. As I said before, folks on Sprint should already be receiving the update to OS 7.1. Meanwhile, Verizon announced the updates for its own Bold 9930 and Torch 9850 last week, and although we've yet to get word from the carrier on when those upgrades will begin rolling out, a report from the folks at CrackBerry claims that the 7.1 push for Verizon's 9930 and 9850 will begin January 10th.
