Samsung Conquer 4G spotted wearing MetroPCS duds, swaps WiMAX for LTE

Ready for another 4G handset, MetroPCS fans? Just a few short months after MetroPCS took the wraps off of the LTE-enabled LG Esteem, it looks like the carrier may soon be unveiling another 4G handset, this time from Samsung. As some of you Sprint folk may have noticed, the device you're staring at above is a rebranded version of the Samsung Conquer 4G. Rather than packing WiMAX connectivity, though, this new model will feature support for Metro's LTE network.

The Conquer 4G was labeled as a nice mid-range smartphone when it hit Sprint earlier this year, and the device should fill a similar role when it hits MetroPCS, coming in as a (hopefully) cheaper 4G alternative to the aforementioned Esteem. It's kind of a bummer that Metro's version of the handset appears to include Samsung's TouchWiz UI while the Sprint variant offered a mostly clean build of Gingerbread, but that shouldn't be too big of an issue for most buyers. No word yet on when this handset might be launching, but you can bet that we'll let you know more when we do.
