When the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 made it to market earlier this year, many reviewers — our own Aaron Baker included — dubbed it the best 'Berry released to date. However, it sounds like RIM's latest flagship device may have one of the worst bugs we've seen in recent memory. Several 9900/9930 owners have reported that, out of nowhere, their handset will simply refuse to power on, turning it into a paperweight with a really nice keyboard. The problem seems to be randomly cropping up after the Bold has been on a charger, though the root cause of the Bold's bricking woes has yet to be identified. RIM confirmed the issue in a statement to CNBC, saying that a "limited number of customers have reported an issue where their device does not power on" and that the company is "actively working on a software update to resolve this issue."
Obviously any time an issue like this arises it's a big deal, especially when it happens to a flagship device like the 9900/9930, but this news is even more disappointing for RIM and Bold owners because it comes just over a month after a major BlackBerry service outage. It's not clear when a fix may be pushed to devices, but those affected can either hit up CrackBerry's forums for troubleshooting advice from other 9900/9930 users or contact RIM directly for a replacement. Have any of you out there had your new Bold randomly die on you?
