AT&T just began rolling out its LTE network back in September and now has it live in 9 markets across the U.S., but today the carrier confirmed its plans to upgrade that network to LTE-Advanced. Speaking at the LTE North America conference, AT&T Labs CEO Krish Prabhu announced that AT&T will update its 4G network to LTE-Advanced technology in 2013. An AT&T spokesperson confirmed Prabhu's statement but offered no additional information.
LTE-Advanced is the next step up from plain ol' LTE, and when it's deployed it should provide several benefits over LTE that include better coverage and capacity. So far Sprint has announced that it plans to roll out an LTE-Advanced network starting in the first half of 2013, but Verizon has yet to offer up an details on when it plans to hop aboard the Advanced train.
