Barnes & Noble is hosting an event next week where it'll likely be showcasing the follow-up to the Nook Color, but that doesn't mean that we have to wait until then to get a sneak peek at what B&N's got up its sleeve. The folks at Engadget have gotten hold of all the details on the Nook Tablet, the device that'll be taking on Amazon's Kindle Fire for the hearts and minds of shoppers everywhere this holiday season. Looking at its face, the Nook Tablet is just about the same as the Nook Color, even featuring the same little hook as its predecessor. However, the Nook Tablet's got some upgraded internals that are worth taking note of. Its feature list is as follows:
The leaked documents confirm that Barnes & Noble will officially unveil the Nook Tablet at the company's November 7th event as expected. The Nook Tablet will actually be launching on November 16th for $249. Just because the Nook Tablet is coming to town doesn't mean that the Nook Color will be riding off into the sunset, though: it'll see a price cut to $199 on the 16th and will also be receiving a v1.4 software update that'll bring Hulu Plus, several music streaming services, and special Nook-specific apps like Scrabble.
Overall it definitely sounds like Barnes & Noble's got itself a pretty interesting little device in the Nook Tablet. The Kindle Fire may be $50 cheaper and have Amazon's name attached to it, but the Nook Tablet could benefit both from the fan base that the Nook Color has built and from Barnes & Noble's has brick and mortar stores, where customers can actually play with a Nook Tablet before buying one.
