Just as soon as we get done reporting on Android 2.3 Gingerbread updates for the Motorola DROID Pro and DROID 2 Global, Moto has dropped word on its update plans for Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. On its official software update page, Motorola has confirmed that the DROID RAZR, BIONIC, and XOOM will all be updated to ICS. Don't own one of those three products? Don't worry just yet, as Moto has said on its Twitter account that it'll announce other devices that'll be seeing ICS "within 6 weeks of Google's public push" of the operating system.
Motorola's also taken the opportunity to remind us that it plans to offer unlockable bootloaders (similar to what's on the XOOM) on its devices later this year. The unlocking solution will be provided in software updates and will be available "where operator and channel partners will allow it," meaning that it's up to your carrier to decide whether or not your particular device will have its bootloader freed. Although I'm sure Motorola isn't being as specific about Ice Cream Sandwich updates as I'm sure many of us would like, it's still good to see the company put the minds of BIONIC and XOOM owners at ease by confirming upgrades for those devics. Moto's also managed to make the DROID RAZR a bit more appealing ahead of its launch by revealing that it, too, will be getting a taste of ICS in the future. As for ICS updates for other devices and unlocked bootloader details, well, we'll just have to sit tight for now. You can bet that as soon as we hear more, we'll pass along the deets. Stay tuned!
