Earlier this year T-Mobile launched its first 4G-enabled tablet in the Dell Streak 7, a 7-inch slate that came with Android 2.2 out of the box. Unfortunately it looks like that won't be changing, as Dell has announced on its official blog that T-Mobile-branded Streak 7 will not be getting an an update to Android 3.2, the more tablet-friendly version of Google's mobile OS. No explanation for the decision was given. Not all Streak 7 owners will be deprived of Honeycomb, though, as users of the unlocked 3G and Wi-Fi-only variants should be notified of an over the air update to Android 3.2 starting this week.
It's definitely a bummer to hear that T-Mobile's Streak 7 will forever be stuck on Froyo, not only because new Android tablets are coming out with a version of the OS that's a full point higher than what the T-Mo Streak 7 is running, but also because other versions of the Streak 7 are getting bumped up to Honeycomb right now. The good news here is that, knowing the Android hacking community, it's entirely likely that an Android 3.2 ROM will eventually be available for all of the Streak 7 users on T-Mobile. Are any of you out there toting around a Dell Streak 7 on T-Mobile?
