Motorola Atrix 2
Are you an AT&T customer and a lover of all things Android? Then today is your lucky day, as AT&T has announced five new Android-powered smartphones that will soon be joining its roster. First up is the successor to the Motorola Atrix 4G, which is rather fittingly called the Motorola Atrix 2. The Atrix 4G was a pretty high-profile handset for AT&T when it launched earlier this year, and the Atrix 2 continues that trend with a 4.3-inch qHD (960x540) display, 1GHz dual-core processor, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture and "faster viewfinder start-up and shutter speeds than a digital camera," a front-facing camera, 1GB RAM, 8GB built-in storage, 2GB microSD card, 21Mbps HSPA+, Webtop compatibility, and Android 2.3 beneath Motorola's custom UI. Expect the Atrix 2 to land on October 16th for $99.99 with a two-year contract.
Second is the Samsung Captivate Glide, a landscape QWERTY slider that we spied yesterday. This one's packing a 4-inch 800x480 Super AMOLED display, 1GHz dual-core Tegra 2 processor, 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, 1.3-megapixel shooter around front, 1GB RAM/ROM, 21Mbps HSPA+, and Android 2.3 alongside Samsung's TouchWiz overlay. And once again, we can't forget about that physical keyboard, which is sure to attract more than a few messaging hounds.
Moving on down the line brings us to the Samsung Doubletime. Like its Captivate Glide brother, the Doubletime also features a hardware QWERTY keyboard. Unlike the Glide, though, this one flips open to reveal its 'board. Other specs for the Doubletime include a pair of 3.2-inch 320x480 touchscreens, 600MHz Qualcomm processor, 3.2-megapixel camera, 2GB microSD card, and Android 2.2 beneath TouchWiz.
Next up is the Pantech Pocket, an Android 2.3 device with a unique form factor. The Pocket features a 4-inch touchscreen with a resolution of 800x600, which explains the squarish design. Other features include a 5-megapixel camera with HD video capture, 2GB microSD card, and the aforementioned Gingerbread OS with a custom Pantech UI.
Last but not least is the AT&T Avail, a ZTE-made Android 2.3 handset destined for AT&T's prepaid GoPhone brand. The Avail's packing a 3.5-inch touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, 512MB RAM/ROM, 2GB microSD card, and Gingerbread.
So there you have it, AT&T-ers. It's good to see the nation's second largest carrier continue to flesh out its Android lineup with a wide variety of handsets, especially considering that AT&T used to be known for its rather thin selection of smartphones running Google's mobile OS. The bad news here is that the Motorola Atrix 2 is the only device of the bunch that AT&T has announced launch or pricing details for, but as usual, we'll pass along more information as we get it. Until then, we've got a brief AT&T video embedded below that offers a short introduction to all five devices, followed by more images of the phones and a press release.
