It's that time again, folks: time to check in with Google and see just how widespread each version of Android is. The last time we looked — which, admittedly, was a while ago — Android 2.2 was dominating the handset scene and Android 3.x was running on just 0.9 percent of all devices accessing the Android Market. How has all of that changed since July? Quite a bit, actually. On the phone side of things, Froyo is still king of the hill with 45.3 percent of devices, although Android 2.3 Gingerbread is nipping at its frozen heels with 38.7 percent (up from just 18.6 percent in July). Android 2.1 is in third place with 11.7 percent while Android 1.5 and 1.6 are sitting at 1.1 and 1.4 percent total.
Moving on to the larger-screened devices, Honeycomb is present on 1.8 percent of devices accessing the Android Market. That's certainly not a huge portion, but it is a jump from the last time we examined the figures.
All around good news, right? Although we'd definitely prefer to see some more of those Froyo users bumped up to Gingerbread, the fact that over a third of Android users are rockin' Android 2.3 or higher is great because it means that more folks are getting updated to GBread and more manufacturers are releasing devices with that particular version of the OS preinstalled. So now that we've gone over the Android OS breakdown, we have to ask: which version of Android are you all currently using?
