Apple is widely expected to unveil the new iPhone 5 at its usually iPod-focused media event this fall, and today we've got a potential date for you to circle — with a pencil, of course — on your calendar. According to a report from Japanese blog Kodawarisan, Apple may be planning to hold the gathering on Wednesday, September 7th.
Last year Apple chose September 1st as the date for its big media event, at which the new FaceTime-enabled iPod touch made its debut. We'll likely see some more iPod updates this year, although as Today's iPhone points out, they'll likely of the more minor variety to allow the new iPhone to be the star of the show (as if it really needed any help being the focus of the event). Exactly when the iPhone 5 will go on sale is still a mystery, but both September and October have been kicked around as possibilities. Stay tuned!
UPDATE: According to a report from Jim Dalrymple at The Loop, Apple will not be holding an event on September 7th. Dalrymple doesn't offer up any other possible dates for the event.
