T-Mobile's been working to build out the 42Mbps flavor of its HSPA+ "4G" coverage quite a bit as of late, with the latest expansion bringing the carrier up to 152 42Mbps markets. We're still waiting for T-Mobile to release a smartphone that can actually harness those (theoretical) 42Mbps speeds, but a new report from Digitimes is alleging that devices from HTC, Samsung, and LG that are capable of accessing said speeds are all in the pipeline. The only availability information given was a vague "second half of this year" window.
We've known that T-Mobile was planning to roll out 42Mbps-enabled handsets in the second half of 2011 for some time now, and it wouldn't really be a shock to see HTC, LG, and Samsung all release 42Mbps phones at some point, but it's still exciting to hear that we're getting closer to the arrival of those devices. There's no word yet on what we can expect from HTC and LG's 42Mbps handsets, but Samsung's rumored to be prepping the 42Mbps-enabled Hercules, which is said to be launching in September with a 4.5-inch 480x800 Super AMOLED Plus display amd 1.2GHz dual-core Qualcomm APQ8060 processor with an MDM8220 modem processor.
