Last week we reported on a rumor claiming that the Samsung Epic 4G may be getting an update to Android 2.3 Gingerbread sometime later this month. Today that rumor got a little support thanks to an unlikely source: Sprint. As you can see up above, Sprint's site now lists the Epic 4G as shipping with Android 2.3, even though you and I both know that the Epic is currently running Froyo.
While this news shouldn't be taken to mean that the Epic 4G's helping of Gingerbread is 100 percent confirmed to be coming soon, it does suggest that an update may not be far off. After all, last month a similar incident occurred with the EVO 4G: Sprint's site claimed that the EVO 4G featured Android 2.3 on May 28th and, although Sprint said that it was just a mistake, the EVO's update ended up rolling out around a week and a half later. We'll definitely be keeping an eye on this going forward, so stay tuned!
