Gingerbread may be gaining ground on Froyo in terms of usage in the Android world, but the T-Mobile G2x hasn't been contributing to that growth. The G2x launched with Android 2.2 back in mid-April and, despite leaks and rumors claiming that an update to 2.3 may not be far off, owners of the device are still stuck on Froyo nearly three months after the handset arrived. Today we've got renewed hope that the G2x's update might soon be here, though, thanks to a moderator over at LG's official forums. Responding to a question about more info on the G2x 2.3 update, the mod said, "I'd be really surprised if it was more than a month out."
The G2x has been generally well-received since its launch, topping our list of the best T-Mobile smartphones currently available. It hasn't been without its problems, though, as many owners have had issues such as random reboots and light bleeding. This isn't the first time we've been told that the G2x's Gingerbread update is right around the corner, but for now we'll sit and hope that the second time is the charm and that the update is indeed coming soon to soothe frustrated owners. If any of you happen to stumble upon a fountain in the mean time, go ahead and throw a coin in there and make a wish that the update will actually be arriving soon. Couldn't hurt, right?
