Sprint Samsung Galaxy Tab set to get Gingerbread on July 5th [UPDATED]

Heads up, Samsung Galaxy Tab owners on Sprint: if the leaked image you see above is to be believed, Independence Day won't be the only thing you'll be celebrating this weekend. According to an image sent over to SprintFeed, the Now Network's 7-inch Galaxy Tab will be updated to Android 2.3 Gingerbread on Tuesday, July 5th. Tab owners interested in the update should be able to manually grab the goods on the 5th by selecting "Update Android" in the "System Updates" portion of the "About My Galaxy Tab" menu. If for some reason you're unable to pull the update on the 5th, it'll reportedly be rolling out over the air to users over a four-day period beginning Tuesday. Sounds like a pretty nice way to wrap up the holiday weekend, no?

Although the original Galaxy Tab is starting to get a tad long in the tooth now, especially with the arrival of devices like the EVO View 4G and Galaxy Tab 10.1, it's great to see Sprint and Samsung continue to show the 7-inch slate some love. Now we just have to wait and see if/when the Galaxy Tabs on other carriers will get the same treatment. Stay tuned!

UPDATE: The folks over at Engadget have been handed the same info. Looks like a safe bet that the OG Galaxy Tabs on Sprint will see a serving of Gingerbread next week. Exciting!

Thanks Mark!
