It's been rumored that Google could launch the next device in its Nexus line of devices before the holidays are up, and today details of that handset may have just been revealed. According to a source speaking with BGR, the new phone may be called the Google Nexus 4G, although the site goes on to say that it may just be a DROID/XOOM-like reference device for Ice Cream Sandwich and not an actual Nexus-branded product.
So what kind of specs can we expect with this mystery handset? According to the tipster, it'll pack a 720p HD "monster-sized" display sans any kind of Android navigation keys, a dual-core 1.2GHz or 1.5GHz processor of the OMAP 4460 or Snapdragon variety, an "advanced" 5-megapixel camera with 1080p HD video capture and "class-leading image quality," a 1-megapixel front-facing shooter, 1GB RAM, 4G LTE connectivity, and the Ice Cream Sandwich version of Android. Google is allegedly working to get the device out sometime around Thanksgiving and, although the source of this information couldn't confirm which carrier will be getting the handset, BGR thinks that it may be headed to AT&T as one of the operator's first LTE-enabled smartphones. There's no mention about which manufacturer may be responsible for the device.
Certainly sounds like a beast of a phone, no? The rumored "Nexus 4G" name seems kind of strange considering that Google's already got a device called the Nexus S 4G, but I suppose anything's possible. As for the rest of the rumor, the device certainly sounds like it's got the makings of a flagship/Nexus phone, and I'm sure that the Big G would really like to create a high-end product to celebrate the arrival of Ice Cream Sandwich.
