There have been several reports claiming that the iPhone 4S/5 will pack both CDMA and GSM connectivity when it debuts, allowing Apple to create one handset that could be sold on both AT&T and Verizon here in the U.S. Today another such report has emerged, this time from Japanese blog Macotakara. The site believes that the next generation iPhone will feature an outer frame similar to the one found on Verizon's iPhone 4, albeit with one big difference: a SIM card slot. Macotakara also alleges that Apple's new handset will feature a front receiver slit that's more narrow than previous models, a smaller front-facing camera hole, and support for the 5GHz band of 802.11n WiFi networking.
As Macotakara points out, its report falls in line with the image you see up above, which originally appeared way back in January and shows a frame similar to the Verizon iPhone but with cutout for a SIM slot. Although still unconfirmed by Apple at this point, it would make sense for the next iPhone to be a hybrid CDMA/GSM device. Doing so would allow Apple to manufacture just one version of the iPhone rather than the two separate CDMA and GSM models that are being made now.
