Ready to finally put that near field communication chip in your new Nexus S 4G to good use? According to a three sources "familiar with the matter" speaking with Bloomberg, Google on Thursday will announce a new mobile payment service that will be available, at least initially, to owners of Sprint's version of the Nexus S. The service will reportedly be rolled out to New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Neither Google nor Sprint had anything official to say on the matter, although it's worth mentioning that Google has been sending out invites to an event on Thursday.
We've heard rumblings that both Google and Sprint were hard at work on some sort of NFC payment solution, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see the two companies team up to push one system, especially given the recent launch of the Nexus S 4G. There's no mention in Bloomberg's report of when we might see more device or carrier support for Google's service, but we should get a better idea of the big G's plans after its event on Thursday. Stay tuned.
