After months of leaks and rumors, the HTC Merge was finally made available to Alltel subscribers yesterday. While there's still no word on when or if the Merge will actually make it to Verizon's shelves, there is at least one other carrier planning to offer the device. Cellular South today announced that they'll be launching the Merge sometime next month and, although there's no pricing info just yet, the carrier did reveal one feature that makes their version of the handset pretty unique: it'll be the first Android phone to launch with the Amazon Appstore preinstalled alongside the Android Market.
Amazon's Appstore hasn't been around long, but it's been pretty well-received so far thanks to their policy of offering a different free app to Android users every day. It's interesting to see that Cellular South's Merge will launch with both the Appstore and the Android Market, but I doubt that it'll be the last handset to come preloaded with both app stores in tow. I'm sure Amazon is pretty happy about the move, but you have to wonder if having two app stores on a phone will could confuse some users. What do you all think? Would you like to see more devices preloaded with the Amazon Appstore and the Android Market?
