Normally Google updates its Android OS distribution numbers at the beginning of the month, but for March, they decided to wait until the middle of the month to give up figures. Of course, with the XOOM's launch, this is the first time that we get to see Honeycomb factored into the situation, and at the end of a two week period ending yesterday, it appeared on 0.2 percent of all Android devices accessing the Market. Android 2.3.3 also made its first appearance on Google's pie chart after having been pushed out to the Nexus One and S. Version 2.3.3 is now on 1 percent of all Androids, outpacing 2.3 which is only on 0.7 percent. Meanwhile, Froyo has made its way onto nearly two-thirds of all devices (What fragmentation?), appearing on 61.3 percent of all Android products, while Eclair shrunk to 29 percent, down 2.4 percent from last month. Finally, Cupcake and Donut have continued their descent, finishing at 3 and 4.8 percent, respectively.
As usual, Google's numbers are pretty interesting, especially since they'll allow us to get an idea of how well the Honeycomb tablets are doing. While 3.0 certainly doesn't have a huge share just yet, it's important to note that the XOOM is the only device out there with it right now, and it hasn't even been available for a month yet. On the smartphone side of things, it's great to see Froyo continue to land on devices in the wild, even if it isn't the latest version of the OS.
