The other day, we heard one analyst claim that the iPhone 5 will come to market without any kind of LTE support. That doesn't mean Apple won't eventually adopt the technology, though, and today Verizon Wireless CEO Dan Mead said that there are LTE Apple products coming. In an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Mead said that Apple "understand[s] the value proposition of LTE" and that he was "very confident" that Apple would be joining in on the LTE fun. Unfortunately, the exec didn't mention any specifics or release dates.
Mead also discussed the Verizon iPhone 4 launch and why there weren't huge lines like we usually see for new iPhones. The CEO said that it was all intentional, as Verizon was heavily pushing online sales of the device and also tried to stagger the roll-out in order to create a smooth experience for customers. Although he didn't discuss concrete sales figures, Mead did say that 60 percent of iPhone sales took place online.
While it's not clear if the new iPhone that'll likely be unveiled this summer will include support for LTE or not, it seems like a pretty safe bet that the tech will eventually make its way into Apple's products. Still it's always good to get confirmation from a CEO. As for the iPhone 5? I'd be pretty surprised if it featured LTE support, especially since the original iPhone didn't feature 3G.
