Motorola XOOM to arrive without Flash capabilities [UPDATED]

Remember the other day when we saw the Motorola XOOM landing in Verizon stores, and we said to expect launch info from Big Red early in the week? That's exactly what's happened, as Verizon has thrown up an information page on their site announcing the XOOM's February 24th release. There's no pricing info just yet, but there is one other interesting detail besides the launch date to be found: Moto's tablet will be launching sans Flash. The feature is expected to arrive some time this spring, when Adobe is expected to push about Flash 10.2 for mobile products.

Considering that Flash is one of the selling points of the XOOM, and Android as a whole, really, it's kind of surprising that it won't be present in the first Honeycomb tablet at launch. That's not really something that should drive someone not to pick up a XOOM, though, and I'm sure Moto wants to make the feature available as soon as possible. Once Adobe gets 10.2 all nice and ready for prime time, expect the XOOM to become Flash-enabled shortly thereafter.

UPDATE: Adobe has chimed in on the situation, saying that they'll be pushing Flash 10.2 "within a few weeks of Android 3 (Honeycomb) devices becoming available." Of course, the XOOM will be the first Honeycomb tablet to market. Looks like XOOM owners will only be Flash-free for a little less than a month!
