Walmart has just confirmed that they will be one of only two third-party retailers in the United States to carry Apple's iPhone 4 for Verizon beginning on launch day. According to the announcement, it will be 600 stores around the nation that are able to sell the device, but if you're hoping for a discount, you won't be finding it there. The company says they won't be marking down the cost of the device at all. However, as long as the stores don't sell out immediately after the launch, you'll be able to find the handset starting on February 10th, for $199 for the 16GB version, and $299 for the 32GB variation.
Curiously, the company didn't clarify a couple key points. First, whether or not the retailers that are open 24 hours would be selling the device beginning at midnight on launch day. Second, whether or not some of the 600 locations would be opening early, if they aren't open 24 hours. So if you don't find yourself by a Verizon retail location on the 10th, but can't wait to get your hands on the iPhone 4 for the CDMA-based network, then Walmart or Best Buy look to be your best (and only) bet. Whether or not you're surprised by the amount of iPhone 4s that Verizon has managed to move so far, it's a good thing that there are more options for potential customers to pick up their handset. Hopefully that means you'll be able to find one, if you didn't pre-order.
