If you're a light data user on Verizon and want to get in on the $15/150MB plan, you'd better do it quick. A new leak has revealed that Verizon is making some big changes to its data plan lineup, and the 150MB plan is reportedly going to be getting the axe. That leaves smartphone users with one option: the $30 unlimited plan. The source of the leak also claims that the wording for Big Red's unlimited plan will be changing to "Feature Phones & 3G Smartphones" to separate its upcoming LTE offerings, but if you go to Verizon's page now, the unlimited option already sports that title. That said, I've no doubt that Verizon will be charging more for LTE data plans. Finally, feature phone owners are going to be overjoyed to learn that the data allowance for the $9.99 data plan will be bumped up from 25MB to 75MB.
It's kind of a bummer to see the 150MB data plan get canned, especially since I have a feeling that the cheaper option prompted a lot of users to move up to a smartphone who normally wouldn't have due to the $30 unlimited plan requirement. The change does kind of make sense, though, as smartphones are using more and more data thanks to email, web browsing, and apps. As for LTE data, it'll be interesting to see how Verizon decides to charge its users for the faster data speeds. Will they see a $10 fee like WiMAX users (and now all smartphone users) on Sprint have been charged, or will it be even more? We still don't know for sure, but with leaks that signal an impending ThunderBolt launch, we should be learning more soon.
