Out of all of the iPad 2 rumors (and there are a lot of them), the one that seems to be the safest bet is that it'll arrive with a pair of cameras. What we don't know, though, is exactly how many megapixels Apple will pack into those cameras. The folks at 9 to 5 Mac did some digging in the latest iOS SDK, claiming that they've got the low down on the iPad 2 cameras. According to an entry in the SDK, the iPad's rear camera may be a mere 1 megapixel, which is not much higher than the iPod Touch's 0.7 megapixel affair. Since they're so close, many are speculating that the iPad 2 could be capable of capturing 720p video, like the iPod Touch. The iPad 2's front-facing camera is said to be VGA, just like the iPod Touch and iPhone 4.
While I doubt anyone expected the iPad 2 to sport anything crazy like an 8 megapixel shooter, this news, if true, is pretty disappointing. Sure, you're certainly not going to replace your DSLR or point-and-shoot with an iPad 2, but it'd be nice to have something like a 3 megapixel cam inside Apple's new tablet. The reason for the weak camera is believed to be the tapering on the edges, which we've seen on iPad 2 mockups in the past. Are you disappointed by the news that the iPad 2's camera may only be 1MP? Or do you plan on using the tablet's shooter so little that it doesn't make much of a difference?
