Back at the beginning of 2009, Apple CEO Steve Jobs annouced that he'd be taking a leave of absence from his company due to health concerns, and today it's been announced that the exec will be taking more time off.  In an email sent to all Apple employees, Jobs explains that he's going to take a break from the company to work on his health, but that he'll still be involved in "major strategic decisions."  During his absence, COO Tim Cook will take over the day to day operations of Apple.  Check out the full letter below.

We've seen Steve Jobs at several events lately and there didn't appear to be anything wrong with him, which is why this news has caught just about everyone off-guard.  There's no word on if this most recent departure is in any way related to the health problems he experience in 2009, but I'm sure more information will be popping up in the near future.

Apple CEO Steve Jobs today sent the following email to all Apple employees:

Team,

At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple's day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.

I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.
