Now that Gingerbread is finally available, it was inevitable that we'd start seeing rumors about just when the next version of Android, aka Honeycomb, would arrive, and today we've got one of the first. According to a "trustworthy" source speaking to Android and Me, Honeycomb will be released some time around Mobile World Congress next year, which is taking place between February 14-17. Interestingly, the tipster also claims that Honeycomb will actually be version 2.4 of Android, not 3.0 like we've heard in the past.
It seems kind of crazy that Google would push out Honeycomb just a couple of months after making Gingerbread available, but I'm sure that they want the "tablet-friendly" version of the OS out so that the wave of Android tablets can begin coming to market. Motorola's Stingray tablet has been rumored to be launching in early February, which would coincide nicely with a Honeycomb debut around the same time. So much for Android updates slowing down any time soon, eh?
