The name "Acer" isn't one that we see much when it comes to smartphones here in the U.S., but it looks like that may be changing soon. At a press conference in New York City, an Acer official said that both AT&T and T-Mobile are evaluating the Liquid Metal and may end up releasing the Android 2.2-powered device. Aymar de Lencquesaing, president of Acer's Smartphone Unit, said that since AT&T and T-Mobile are the only major GSM carriers in the U.S. and the Liquid Metal is a GSM phone, it's up to the two carriers to decide if they want to sell the device. Specs for the Liquid Metal include an 800MHz second-gen Snapdragon processor (just like the G2), 3.6-inch display with an 800x480 resolution, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and version 2.2 of Android.
It's worth noting that the Canadian carrier Rogers is planning to launch the Liquid Metal, so that may help the device's odds of seeing a stateside release. The Liquid Metal has some nice specs, especially the 800MHz Snapdragon chip, and its stainless steel battery cover will add to the high-end feel. I don't know about you, but I'm hoping to see the Liquid Metal arrive on one of the U.S. GSM carriers, if only because that could give us a better chance at seeing Acer's 4.8-inch monster hit the shelves here, too.
