Owners of Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X10 here in the U.S. have been waiting patiently for an update to Android 2.1, but we haven't heard a peep from SE about when that update would be coming. The company broke that silence today, though, explaining on their Facebook page exactly why we're still without Eclair for the X10. As Sony Ericsson explains it, there are two reasons for the delay: the U.S. received the X10 later than other countries, so it's update will arrive after the earlier regions get their own upgrades, and that, with all of the technical requirements that must be met, the testing process for an update can take months. Unfortunately for all X10 owners, SE isn't announcing any sort of release date for the 2.1 update until testing is complete.
While it's true that testing a device or update can take some time, it's still pretty sad that Sony Ericsson hasn't pushed out Android 2.1 for the U.S. X10 yet. We're expecting Gingerbread to drop any time now (December 6th is the most current possible date), and when it does, the X10 is going to be even further behind than it is now. The only upside to this story is that at least SE is still working on a 2.1 update for the X10, and that it won't be stuck forever on 1.6 like some other Android phones.
