Motorola finalizing the Mobility and Solutions split in January

We heard all the way back in June that Motorola would be splitting itself into two divisions, one focused on mobility and the other on wireless tech for businesses and government, and big changes like that take time.  Motorola co-CEO Greg Brown said today that the transformation will take place soon, though, possibly as soon as January.  The two divisions will be known as Motorola Mobility and Motorola Solutions, and Brown, who will take charge of the Solutions side of things, says he expects a growth of five to eight percent in the long term.

Motorola's Mobility division, responsible for giving us the DROID line of devices as well as other Android phones, should do pretty well for itself once the split is all said and done.  It's been releasing a steady stream of Android phones in the past few months, and the company shows no signs of stopping now.  Plus, there's that whole MOTOPAD tablet with Honeycomb on the horizon.  The MOTOPAD may not be a phone, but if it has even half of the success as the DROID, then Motorola will be just fine.
