From the first time we caught wind of the Galaxy Tab, we were hoping that their 7-inch powerhouse tablet would sport Samsung's famous Super AMOLED displays and fulfill an Android nerd's dream. Then we heard that this wasn't the case and a little bit of our tech-loving hearts died. The good news is, that on the next generation of Samsung tablets, barring there is another generation, we can expect to see beautiful Super AMOLED displays with an estimated 1200 by 600 pixel resolution.
The production of these OLED panels will start in in the middle of June 2011 and they estimate a capacity of 30 million small and middle panels to be produced each month. If these numbers are right, and Samsung can handle such a capacity, that would definitely help prevent another display shortage. Since the production of these displays will not start until halfway through next year, don't expect to see them until around this time next year, at the earliest.
As for the Galaxy Tab launching in the very near future, it will sport a Super TFT display that is, according to different sources, very bright, crisp, and has great contrast. While it may not be Samsung's own bread a butter display, it will still hold its own, until next year. Samsung stated in a video about the displays on the Galaxy Tab that Super TFT is better optimized for tablets than its counterpart, for now. It's better with power consumption and is more cost efficient. Seeing that Android isn't the greatest with battery life, and the price for the Galaxy Tab already sits at a fairly steep $500-600, I would be thanking Samsung if anything.
