News of the white iPhone 4 has become about as cloudy as it can get. BGR is reporting that Apple actually has no plans to release the white version of the iPhone 4. All Apple has officially said about the issue is, "We're sorry to disappoint customers waiting for the white iPhone again," and that the white iPhone 4 was "more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected." Boy Genius goes on to say:
"Our source hypothesizes another “delay” communicated around March leading us into an iPhone 5 release time-frame in June / July. Something interesting is that manufacturing sources our contact has are keeping quiet on the matter, not confirming that this was in fact a manufacturing issue at this point, but that there might be something else going on behind the scenes."
If this is the case, I predict a slew of hate-filled emails in Mr. Jobs' inbox by nightfall. There have been a lot of people patiently waiting with hope of getting their hands on the leucous device, but it seems as if they have been living in false hope. If Apple has no intent to release the much anticipated device, they should come out and say it already. Personally, I'm sticking with BGR's latter statement here with something going on behind the scenes. I don't believe Apple, or any company for that matter, would let thousands of customers drool over pictures of a mythical device and then tear it from their dreams without word. Maybe Alex was right. Maybe the white iPhone 4 is going to Verizon...who knows.
Update (10/28): We mentioned that the white versions of the iPhone 4 had been spotted in Apple's "Store" app for reservation. To further prove Apple's cancellation, they have since been removed from the application. However, they're still present on AT&T's website. My original theory still stands. I believe something bigger is going on behind the scenes, and Apple's lips are sealed, until someone forgets the white iPhone 4 in a bar.
