AT&T switching to LTE-ready SIM cards in preparation for the move to 4G

AT&T may not be moving to LTE until the middle of next year, but that doesn't mean they can't start prepping for the big 4G move right now.  Over at Boy Genius Report, an image has been posted that details AT&T's switch to LTE-compatible SIM cards.  The document tells employees to pay attention to the SKU numbers since there could be up to eight different SIMs at any given time in a store.  As you can see, the new LTE SIMs aren't compatible with the iPhone 4 thanks to that device's use of micro SIM cards.

While these new LTE-ready SIM cards won't really have much of an effect on consumers immediately, it's great to see AT&T prepping for their move to 4G already.  Now they just need to hurry and actually get their LTE network up and running.  I know it takes work to get a new 4G network up and running, but ATT is going to seriously be lagging in the 4G race if they only cover 75 million people by the end of 2011.  Verizon and Sprint are going to be covering over 100 million people with LTE/WiMAX by the end of this year, and T-Mobile hopes to have 200 million people beneath their HSPA+ coverage by the end of 2010.  Step it up, ATT!
