We've heard on more than one occasion that Clearwire is planning on launching its 4G service in New York City and Los Angeles for some time now, but it appears that they've finally done the deed.  In an e-mail sent out today, Clearwire announced that it is handing out 3G/4G modems to select "early adopters," but the company warns that the WiMAX build out isn't complete in either city.  Service plans for the 4G service are available for $35 for the first two months and $55 for the following months, and customers must sign a two-year contract.  Clearwire won't give a concrete date as to when the 4G roll out will be completed, but they do say that everything will be finished by the end of the year.  Finally, Clearwire has said that traveling owners of a 4G modem may also experience a connection in cities with WiMAX roll out out later this year, including San Francisco, Miami, Orlando, Denver, Cincinnati, and some other major cities.

While the 4G roll out still isn't complete in NYC and LA, it's good to see that everything should be finished soon.  Considering Sprint is the majority owner of Clearwire, this news is good for owners of a WiMAX-ready device like the EVO 4G or Epic 4G in these cities, as they should soon see their handsets accessing the 4G network, if they haven't already.  Tell us, NYC and LA Sprint customers, have you gotten a hold of any WiMAX connections recently?
