T-Mobile G2 keyboard photos leak, shortcut keys cause speculation

We've seen all kinds of T-Mobile G2 leaks over the past month or so, but one aspect of the device that hasn't really gotten much of the spotlight is the keyboard.  That changes today, as we've got close-ups of the G2 keyboard that show off the specialized keys of the device.  One of the most debated aspects of the keyboard are the three keys on the bottom row with three dots: just what do those keys do?  One theory is that they are shortcut keys that allow quick access to your favorite apps.  While this seems like a good idea, I like DroidDog's theory a little more: the keys are a home screen selection tool.  If you examine the keys closely, you'll notice that one square is larger than the others on each key.  Looks like a solid guess to me.

Now that we've seen the specs, price, and launch date for the G2 leak out and now we've covered the keyboard extensively, I'm not sure there's much else to learn.  Fortunately, we're only a few weeks away from the G2's reported launch date, so we won't have to speculate much longer.  Going back to the home screen shortcut keys, I think the idea is a pretty great one.  HTC already has their Leap shortcut which allows a user to jump to any home screen by pinching the main screen with their fingers.  The ability to simply press a button on your keyboard to jump around makes that process even easier.  Now that we've heard my opinion and the opinion of a couple of other journalists, though, I want to hear what you think, readers.  What purpose do you think the G2's special dotted keys serve?
