Verizon makes Skype Mobile available to some non-smartphones

Way back at the beginning of June, Verizon announced that they would be bringing their Skype Mobile app, previously only available on smartphones like the DROID, to some of its non-smartphone devices.  Today they went ahead and did just that, as three devices on Verizon's website identify themselves as having "Skype Mobile."  The phones that are now Skype-ready include the Samsung Reality, the LG Chocolate Touch, and the LG enV Touch.  If you already own one of these devices, simply head to Media Center/Get It Now on your phone or text SKYPE to 2255 to receive a download link.

Now that Verizon has gone ahead and made Skype available to some of its feature phones, I wouldn't be surprised to see even more non-smartphone devices receive the app in the future.  The downside to this news, however, is that ever since Verizon and Skype have been buddy-buddy, Android phones on other carriers have been left without an official Skype app to call their own.  Still, it's great to see the feature phones in Verizon's stable get some added functionality.  I guess now you've got another reason to pick up a messaging phone rather than a smartphone, huh?
