While the Dell Streak received a warm welcome upon its release, some users were disappointed to learn that it was running version 1.6 of the Android OS. Many of us were expecting Dell to push Android 2.1 to the device in the near future, but Dell said recently that they will likely skip 2.1 altogether and move directly to Android 2.2. Dell's own Lionel Menchaca tweeted that as far as he knows, the company's "current plan in the US is to go right to Froyo." No release date info was given, but hey, the news that Streak owners will be getting Froyo is pretty big by itself.
It's always great to hear that device is getting the update to Android 2.2, especially when the news comes so soon after its launch. Even though Dell didn't give any sort of ETA for the Streak's Froyo upgrade, I would imagine that they're already hard at work at pushing it out. Hopefully we'll be seeing it sooner rather than later. So now that we know the Streak will be getting Android 2.2 in the near future, are any of you considering picking up the 5-inch Android smartphone?
