We already covered this one last night, but considering how big this news is, we don't want anyone to miss out. Sprint has confirmed that Android 2.2 will hit the HTC EVO 4G beginning August 3rd. Froyo has only been available to the Nexus One so far, so Sprint will be the first carrier to offer the update to its customers. The update will begin going out in waves on August 3rd, and should hit all EVOs by the middle of August. Users that don't feel like waiting around for Sprint to send notification of the upgrade can initiate the download themselves by going to HTC Software Update on their EVO.
This is great news for EVO owners, especially considering all of the enhancements and new features that will be included in the update that we reported on yesterday. I'm surprised that Froyo is heading to the EVO before Motorola's DROID considering the EVO is running Sense on top of Android, but this bodes well for future updates. Since this update came so quickly to a device skinned with Sense, perhaps updates will come quicker to other skinned devices, as well. So, who's going to be constantly pushing the Software Update button on their EVO next Tuesday?
