We've heard in the past that Sprint would be carrying the Motorola i1, which is already available on Boost Mobile, and now the carrier is finally getting around to releasing the device. The Android-powered i1 will be hitting Sprint on July 25th for $149.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate and a two-year contract. Running Android 1.5 beneath a MOTOBLUR skin, the Moto i1 features Push To Talk functionality as well as a 3.1-inch touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with LED flash, and Opera Mini 5 and Swype preloaded. The device also meets MilitarySpec 810F for blowing rain, dust, shock vibration, temperature extremes, low pressure, salt fog, humidity and solar radiation, so you can be sure your i1 will survive any sort of apocalyptic conditions you may encounter.
Even though the Motorola i1 is definitely no HTC EVO, it's still great to see another Android phone hitting Sprint. The fact that it's running the antiquated Android 1.5 is pretty upsetting, though, especially considering that we're now looking forward to what may be version 3.0 of the OS in Gingerbread. It's understandable that it takes time to update Android phones that are running a skinned version of the OS, but releasing a device that's running a version of Android that's over a year old is kind of ridiculous at this point.
