AT&T Android fans, hold on to your hats for this one! Until today, the Samsung Vibrant was the only Samsung Galaxy S phone that had an official release date. But no longer, as AT&T has announced via their Facebook fan page that the Samsung Captivate will be officially released on July 18th at "AT&T retail locations and online." The phone will be available for $199.99 with the standard 2-year contract or $349.99 without. Now let's be honest here, that's pretty cheap for an off-contract price, questionably cheap in fact, but until we hear otherwise I guess that's what we've got to go with. For $150 more than the contract price, I'd definitely go without the contract, but that's just me.
Another interesting fact is that the launch date is the 18th, while the Vibrant (T-Mobile Variant) launch was initially scheduled for the 21st, and recently moved to the 15th. I wonder if AT&T was trying to one-up T-Mobile by undercutting their initial launch date by three days, or if somehow T-Mobile heard that AT&T was launching earlier and therefore pushed up the date? We may never know, but what we do know is that the US now has two launch dates for the nation's two major GSM carriers. What's it going to be, Captivate or Vibrant? Let us know!
