Hey Ricky, your message was heard! This morning, newly appointed chief of Mobile Solutions at Nokia - Anssi Vanjoki - addressed the world from Nokia's official blog, Nokia Conversations. The message was clear. If you thought Nokia was planning on sitting back on their throne just because they're number one overall, you're sadly mistaken. Vanjoki is clearly out to win back the heavyweight title as king of high quality phones. "I am committed, perhaps even obsessed, with getting Nokia back to being number one in high-end devices," he said.
His plans include releasing the Nokia N8, the first and last Sybmian^3 phone from Nokia, in the coming months. He also alludes (heck, he spells it out!) to the impending launch of a Symbian^4 Nseries phone in the future, though Nokia "never comment[s] on future products," right? Vanjoki clears up any rumors (or hopes) of Nokia's intention to adopt Android as a platform. Nokia stands behind Symbian and its capabilities, and Vanjoki plans to "win back supporters" by delivering "products and services faster, and with a laser focus on quality."
It's a bold statement on the part of Vanjoki, and in day two of his new job you can see he still has the fire in his eye to deliver on what he says. But as much as I'd like to believe him (really, I do!), I just can't help but remember that old adage ending in "paved with good intentions." Time will tell, it always does, and as the Guru said, "If they can put out 2 flagship devices in a row that don't completely suck, I may even give them another chance. I won't hold my breath."
