Palm and HP have been sending fanboys (and girls) on an emotional roller coaster over the last few weeks.  It all started when the announcement was made that Palm would be acquired by HP.  You could almost hear the sigh of relief felt by webOS fanatics that day.  Several weeks after the announcement, HP CEO Mark Hurd delivered a swift cold blow when saying that HP wasn't in it for smartphones, they wanted webOS and Palm's respectable IP.  Clearly that didn't go over very well (and perhaps he was just misunderstood...yeah, right), so HP PR quickly scrambled around like little mice in the attic to deliver a statement basically reneging what Hurd said, instead suggesting he meant to say smartphones weren't the main reason, they will now be part of the grander scheme of things.

Now that the roller coaster has leveled out a bit, there is some good news on the Palm front.  According to AllThingsD, we can expect to see both new devices and a webOS upgrade from Palm/HP in the future.  Yesterday at a developer event, Josh Marinacci of Palm said “I’m not allowed to talk about future road maps, especially because we’re in the process of being acquired by HP. But yes we have a road map. We are working on future devices. And a new version of the OS. So I think, you’re going to find the next year very exciting.”  I'm not a Palm fanboy by any stretch of the word, but I am a fan of competition and forward thinking and I'd greatly welcome the next iteration of webOS to add to the current market.  Any Palm fanboys (or girls) starting to feel relieved?
