Back in April a mail in rebate form for US Cellular surfaced with the HTC Desire listed as one of the phones eligible for a rebate. Of course, if a phone is eligible for a rebate, logic would suggest that the phone must be offered for sale first. The initial rumored dates of release were somewhere between April 16th and July 15th. Unfortunately, yesterday we found out that while US Cellular did intend to launch the Desire in July, the launch has been delayed due to HTC's inability to keep up with the high demand for their devices.
There is some good news that comes from all this. This afternoon via Twitter, HTC informed its followers that the Desire will be coming to the US "via select regional operators in August." This is good news on two accounts. First, there was reason to believe that US Cellular wouldn't see the Desire until "at least" August, which leaves me thinking it would probably be even later. So, at least there is now hope that August will be the official target time frame for the Desire's release. Second, as of now we only knew of the Desire coming to US Cellular, and it would definitely seem that HTC is trying to tell us something by saying "regional operators" plural. In any event, it's good to see that the underdogs are still getting a piece of the action, I just hope AT&T, Sprint and T-Mobile have something up their sleeve to compete with Verizon's outright DROID attack. Thoughts? You know where to leave them!
